Dental Exams and Cleanings

Regular, bi-annual dental exams and cleanings are essential for maintaining good dental health throughout your life. During your cleaning and exam, your dental hygienist and dentist evaluate your dental health and examine your mouth for signs of decay or bone loss. Your teeth will be cleaned to remove any tartar or plaque buildup. In addition, your hygienist will floss, polish, and apply fluoride to your teeth. Dental exams and cleanings help our team monitor your dental health and if your at-home dental care is effective.

Sealants

Application of dental sealants can also provide your teeth with an extra level of protection against bacteria and decay. This preventive treatment protects the biting surfaces of back teeth with a layer of composite resin. Back teeth (molars) have natural grooves in which food and bacteria can get trapped, multiply, and then cause dental decay. In many cases, regular toothbrushes cannot always fully clean inside these natural grooves. Dental sealants are painted directly onto the tooth and can last for around 5 years before replacement. This treatment can benefit patients of any age.

Oral Cancer Screening

As part of your routine dental health exams, we will conduct an oral cancer screening. If oral cancer is not detected and treated early, it can be life-threatening. An oral cancer screening involves a quick screening of your entire oral cavity, not just your teeth and gums. In addition, we will feel the tissues in your mouth and throat for an abnormalities, and may perform a simple test to collect a sample for any suspicious lesions.
